Crystal-clear windows are a hallmark of a well-kept home. Moreover, they are appealing to look at. However, using cleaners with harsh chemicals to achieve these results can deteriorate your window’s glass in the long run.

So, it’s best to use homemade cleaners instead, as they provide the same results without any side effects. Here, we have listed some of the best homemade window cleaning solutions to help you get streak-free windows without any harmful effects.

6 Best Homemade Window Cleaning Solutions

1. Vinegar and Water Solution

Vinegar and water solution is one of the most effective ways to clean your window. It’s also simple to make. You only need to mix water and white vinegar in equal amounts and transfer the content into a spray bottle.

Spray this solution on top of the window to prevent any drips, and clean it with a microfiber cloth or a squeegee. You can also add essential oils to make the solution fragrant and dilute the vinegar smell.

2. Lemon Juice Solution

Another acidic solution for your windows is lemon juice. Mix 1/4th cup of lemon juice with 2 cups of warm water to create an effective solution. Lemon juice is a natural degreaser and easily removes stains and marks on the windows.

Spritz the solution onto the glass and wipe with a lint-free cloth or a squeegee using the S-shape method or to-and-fro motion.

3. Dish Soap Cleaning Solution

Using a dish soap solution is one of the best ways to clean the windows. You just need to add two teaspoons of liquid dish soap to a cup of warm water. Apply the solution at the top of the window.

Use a microfiber cloth or paper towels to go over the window 2-3 times. Wipe once with plain water to remove excess solution, then dry with paper towels to prevent streaks.

4. Rubbing Alcohol-based Cleaner

A rubbing alcohol-based solution is useful in combating stubborn grease and stain marks on the windows. To make the solution, pour a cup of rubbing alcohol, two cups of water, and one cup of white vinegar into a glass spray bottle.

The combination of acid and alcohol works well to remove the stains from your windows. Moreover, these ingredients evaporate quickly, so there is no fear of leaving harmful residues.

5. Cornstarch-based Cleaner

The abrasive properties of cornstarch mixed with rubbing alcohol and white vinegar are potent enough to cut through dirt and grime. So, in a spray bottle, combine 1/4th cup of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol with two cups of warm water and one tablespoon of cornstarch.

Shake the bottle well and apply the solution to the top of your window. Let it sit for a while, and work on your window’s glass. Wipe with a clean cloth, squeegee or a sponge. Apply cold water till the hazy residue from the cornstarch disappears.

6. Black Tea Cleaning Solution

Surprising but true. You can use black tea to get rid of streak marks and grime from your windows. The tannic acid in the tea helps break down the stubborn marks on the windows and removes them.

You just have to steep an extra strong cup of black tea by using 3 to 4 tea bags for 8 ounces of water. Strain the tea into a spray bottle and allow it to cool. Test the solution on your windows and clean them with a clean cloth, squeegee, or a sponge.

You can use these homemade cleaners to restore your window’s appearance without any harmful side effects. Plus, you also save money by using homemade alternatives. Just make sure to test the solution before using it.
